From Trainee Contract Recruitment to the business of coming back after summer we’ve missed out on our Geldards and the Community posts recently! So, this time instead of just looking back on this month we’re going to look at all the different things that have happened since the last update!

Events and Involvements

Following on from the Ice Cream van that appeared in the Cardiff offices last summer (and the extreme amount of ice creams bought for the Nottingham office and hand delivered by one of our trainees!) Cardiff ended the financial year with a pop-up breakfast café to celebrate a great year!

We had the honour of hosting and presenting at the Digital Tuesday Networking event in October which was well attended.

Our Agriculture and Equine offering where also able to attend Burghley Horse Trials in September so a great day was had by all.

Our Derby office hosted the VRA Members Meeting in September which focused on the developments in end of life vehicle inspections whilst one of our Derby Partners got involved in Let’s Talk Derby! Our Derby office also hosted a fantastic Employment Seminar looking at absence management, the challenges presented by mental ill-health, reviewing performance and how to get the most out of appraisals and performance reviews.

At the end of September we had a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support which had a bit of a twist – the team brought in Vegetable and Meat Samosa’s instead to raise money for a great cause!

In October a team from our Midlands offices took part in a Netball Tournament in aid of NSPCC and came runners up after losing only 1 game in 7.

At the Midlands Rail Forum our very own Partner hosted the panel discussion after being involved for quite some time she had a great time helping and supporting on the panel.

We also had the pleasure of inviting JD Gyms to come in and be a part of our Wellbeing focus!

New Positions/Awards

Our very own Partner Huw Williams was appointed a prestigious Welsh Assembly role in August.

Over the last few months we were also proud to be once again recognised by the Legal 500 for a variety of areas of expertise and for specific individual contributions. We were also proud to be maintain a strong position in the Chambers & Partners 2020 Legal Directory.

Our Cardiff base Corporate team was shortlisted for four different awards at the Wales Dealmakers Awards 2019 which was a great honour! We were honoured to win the Legal Team of the Year at the event.

Geldards Cardiff based Corporate team have joined the Think Employee Ownership initiative in Wales which aims to increase the numbers of business that utilities employee ownership as a business succession model.

Byte Night

A Geldards Team took part in Byte Night again this year which meant a lot of fundraising over the last few months!

We started off the fundraising with a bake sale to support Action for Children, there were then a variety of things going on in the office to raise money before the main event. At the beginning of October then a team from Geldards braved the weather conditions and all (including our very own Head of HR) slept out in Cardiff to raise money and awareness.

All Wales Charity Governance, Law & Finance Conference

The Geldards Charity Team, in partnership with Baldwins and Brewin Dolphin hosted the 3rd All-Wales Charity Governance, Law and Finance Conference on “Leaving a Legacy”. It was aimed at Charity Trustees, Chief Executives and Finance Directors and provided a wide variety of informative sessions, all offering practical advice and guidance from a range of experts to help you stay on the right track.

Rugby World Cup

With the Rugby World Cup only coming around once every four years it’s only right that a bit of a fuss was made! From a number of Networking breakfasts hosted by EngageSport to a Sports and Social where we showed one of the matches it’s been a great time had by all!

Trainee Solicitors

After all of the recruitment time for the positions it was brilliant to see our 7 new trainee solicitors start in September across the offices! Being able to have the chance to get to know them a bit better and see how well they all get on has been a privilege. If you’d like to read more about what it’s like to work for us check out our other blog (

Friday the 18th of October

On Friday the 18th you may have seen it was a busy one for us in the offices. We were supporting three different causes that day, from #WearItPink for Breast Cancer Awareness, to supporting Menopause Awareness and we had a dress down and Bake Sale for Baby Loss Awareness week. A lovely time was had and a lot learnt about the different causes, as well as some fantastic star bakers found in the offices!
