Summer means so many different things to people, this month we’ve had such a lovely warm summer we even had to call in an ice cream van to help us cool down (see more in our Geldards and the Community Part 5 blog post!)

Whilst so many people have been off on annual leave it’s a great time to review what’s happened so far in the year and what there is to look forward to. If you’ve been on our social media this year, you’ll see a lot to do with training contracts and mental health as almost our two main themes of the year!

As a recruiter I’ve had the opportunity to speak to a variety of candidates this year through the training contracts but also just in general and something that’s really stood out is how differently people are looking at positions at the moment. We’ve started to realise on the whole recently how important work life balance is and how important not only the job that you do is but also your view of it.

Work is where you spend most of your day, you’re likely to see your work colleagues more than your friends sometimes, especially if you’re trying to juggle work with moving house, a new relationship, a volunteering activity, a sport or anything else!

Mental Health and Outlook

That’s why it’s so important to look after your mental health and take a step back when things get a bit quieter (like in the summer when it feels like everyone is away!) and look at what’s important to you and your priorities. Making sure that you enjoy the job that you do may be as simple as changing the way you see it, instead of seeing certain things as difficult, they’re challenging. Instead of seeing something as repetitive it’s a chance to perfect how you do something.

Taking the time out to see what’s really important to you will make such a difference to how you view things. It’s important to remember when it comes to how we think and feel that it doesn’t need to be compared to anyone else. We don’t have to react in the same way as anyone else as it’s our difference that really make us special!

What next?

Sometimes it’s difficult to know what to do next, whether to stay somewhere and change your outlook on things or look for a new challenge. Whether you’re taking enough time for yourself or if you could really do with some annual leave now is the time to do it!

In Geldards now is the end of our financial year so it gives us a chance to really start afresh over the summer and really prioritise what’s important in the team and as a Business.

It’s this time of year we make the decisions on our new Trainees, it’s this time of year we start to plan the events out all over again and it’s a fantastic time to take a more long term view on how everything is going and what can be improved for next time!

So why is it so important? Why do we need to know what we’re doing and when and why do we need to prioritise these things?

If you take the time to figure out what’s important to you you get the chance to take so many opportunities you may have missed out on before. Looking at our events over the coming months it’s such an exciting time to really get to know people better so that (from a recruiters point of view anyway) we can really get to know the people who are interested in working with us and have the opportunity to make lasting connections.

… If however you decide that you are looking for a change, then you should definitely head to our vacancies page to find out if you can join our exciting teams!
